Wahine (1)

The Wahine (1) was a passenger vessel built in 1913 for the Union Steamship Company of New Zealand. She was primarily employed on the inter-island route between Wellington and Lyttelton on New Zealand's South Island.

Early Service

After entering service in 1913, the Wahine (1) operated on the Wellington-Lyttelton route, providing a vital transport link between New Zealand's North and South Islands.

War Service

In July 1915, the vessel was requisitioned for war service. She remained in military service until April 1920, when she returned to her civilian duties.

Post-war Service

Following her return to civilian service in April 1920, the Wahine (1) resumed her role on the inter-island route. She continued serving the Union Steamship Company's fleet for over three decades.

Final Fate

The Wahine (1) was wrecked on August 15, 1951, after 38 years of service.
