Wookata

The Wookata was a passenger-cargo vessel built in 1909 by Mackie & Thompson at their Govan shipyard in Scotland. Throughout her working life, she operated exclusively in the South African coastal trade.

Early Service

Initially owned by the West Coast Shipping Co Ltd, Wookata served from 1909 until 1913, when she was sold to Coast Steamships Ltd.

Later Years and Conversion

In 1936, Wookata was converted into a barge, which resulted in changes to her registered tonnage. She continued in service until the late 1970s, when she was finally cut up for scrap.
