Oosterschelde

The Oosterschelde features a meticulously preserved main cabin that showcases traditional Dutch maritime craftsmanship and design elements.

2013 Port Adelaide Visit

The vessel arrived at McLaren wharf, Port Adelaide on August 28, 2013. The following morning, approximately 300 visitors attended a public breakfast event aboard the ship.

Interior Features

The main cabin displays exceptional woodworking with fine timber panelling throughout. The captain's table, a centerpiece of maritime craftsmanship, features a polished finish with drop-leaf ends secured by studs and an innovative fixed condiment box in the center to prevent items from sliding during voyages. A small galley occupies one end of the cabin.

The starboard wall features cabinets with small glass panes, with the central cabinet distinguished by two inlaid paintings depicting the vessel. The cabin's ambiance is enhanced by an old black upright piano and traditional Dutch light fixtures. Near the stern stairway, a formal coat of arms is mounted on a board. The cabin's decoration includes various paintings and drawings that contribute to its historical atmosphere.

Technical Details

The vessel's oblong skylights employ a period-appropriate mechanism consisting of screw cylinders that can be operated from below. These skylights feature notably thick glass panes, though interestingly lack protective grilling.
